Completed Prototypes
Here are a few completed (including materials inside) prototypes I'll bring to class tomorrow.

New interation and Toolkit ideas
Here is my unfinished storyboard with illustrations

I'm envisioning these instruction booklettes are held inside a a zip-lock baggy with some scrap materials, plastic knitting needle, and string placed behind them as starters. After looking at Kerrie's post, I'm really beginning to like the idea of reuseing a glass jar instead of bags though, or even old PB containers that are clear (i.e. Jiff) The information is the key, not the scraps. The table will be the most effective area to convey the message to children/parents or anyone crafty. See the storyboard for more detail

1.) If you were at a farmers market and these objects were free, would you create one out of
reclaimed garbage?
I don't understand the question. If I could acquire the materials free to make a cool bag, I would make one if my girlfriend was really into handmade bags, and if the materials were able to be cleaned. As for dolls, I'm not into dolls, so no.
2.) Would you create one for yourself or for a friend/family member/child? I would make a bag for someone who is really onto bags. Billy's Alana would be all about it.
3.) Would it make you feel uncomfortable if you recieved one as a gift and were told it was made
of other peoples garbage? Not at all, as long as it didn't smell.

The dolls, well, they could look more like dolls, unless they are made for Helen Keller.

Well, I like the idea of anything made from "waste" of something else. If I can make something useful out of garbage, I'm all about it.

It seems that people re leaning towards the bag idea more so than a doll.
Wording is obviously a factor ( I worded it with an emphasis on garbage and trash purposely to see reaction), people want a clever disguise for recycled materials.

I would need to know a bit more about the origin of the materials, if they were actually 100% sanitary/could be sanitized to pass, without question, retail regulation.... See More

Again, see #1. Materials need to be approved for re-use. Not just Brooklyn hippie approval it was in a bag and not really touching anything else it's fine. You know, like legit- FTC approval.

...depending on #1, but most likely.

The first one has a particularly interesting use of materials and is actually an attractive design! It slightly resembles the Uglydoll line @ FAO Schwarz.
Second one is fair. I very much like the design of the graphic which is a great jumping off point. The materials look damaged, i.e. the bottom edge of the canvas. I would revisit and edit the strap design. What is needed and what isn't?
Third one has a good base but looks unfinished. Could use more of a through-line for it's design.

Re-evaluation, more archive materials, notes on lecture
Here are some more images from my note taking, idea building, and individual re-evaluation of prototypes and "other"...
Here I was contemplating peoples perception of what garbage is and how it can develope an added value based on Ken Stevens' lecture being given (note the diagram of our first prototype)
more thoughts on lecture and my place in our group...
This image has many notes for our in-class deliverable after the lecture. It shows my focus on tactile percpetion and alternative emotion from those we're surveying. It also shows notes on what I percieve my teammates would imagine the "other" to be... since written we've discussed further on not aiming towards children.
Here I've begun to link backwards. Stepping back from the present areas of focus and reverting back into our shared common interest and renewing a problem statement at the bottom of the page.
Finally we have images of our deliverable feed-back and issues and questions raised by our presentation...
I think we need to re-evaluate our other based on our ethnographic research we're beginning to gather. Kerrie and I have discussed not using "children" as our other but I think we need to reformat our prototypes to people of older age groups and different classes.

Notes from the beginning to now
ok so i like to take my notes in my journal. which tend to create an issue for me when it comes time to post them and stuff because it requires scanning them in. which i did while my room mate was technically sleep..... O_O i hope she doesn't poison my food.
anyways i have a few different photos to post of notes from my journal. they will be in chronological order.
ok so pic one:
so this is a min
d map that i created on february 16, 2010. i actually ended up doing two different mind maps, but this one contains the same information basically. the mind map begins at the top with the word 'materials. ' i chose this word after working with Erin and we talked about all the different things that we were interested in. we wanted to focus on a project that combined our interests in some way and the term materials was something we both related to because we are both artists and therefore use all different types of materials for the projects that we do.
interestingly enough when Erin and i compared our mind maps we discovered that we had both written about materials and how they related to the farmers market. the concept of the farmers market has since become the basic foundation to our project.
yay on to picture two!!!!!:
so this next scan is from 24 2010 and is the original project statement that we wrote for class. after i finished writing this problem statement i gave my journal to Kerrie and Erin and i had them read through it and then write their suggestions about what i had written. i then added their suggestions to the problem statement.

this is the second design proposal that we came up with and it also includes some different ideas of what we could do for our project. however after presenting this to the class my group and i decided that this proposal didn't resonate with us the way that the original one did so we decided to revert back to the original proposal. the drawing does not relate to this priject and is actually par tof my logo design for my company.
ok now i am tired of doing this so thats it for now. :D
